The 2022 Nobel Prize in Economics was awarded to Ben Bernanke (ex-President of the Federal Reserve System), Douglas Diamond (University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business) and Philip Dybvig (Washington University in Saint Louis) for their work on banks and their necessary bailouts during financial crises. They demonstrate the importance of preventing the widespread collapse of banks.
