Environment

Paris School of Economics (PSE) aims to develop economic research and disseminate its results at the highest international level. It brings together a community of 135 researchers and 166 doctoral candidates, and offers a range of cutting-edge courses in economics. PSE was founded in 2006 by CNRS, EHESS, ENS, École des Ponts-ParisTech, INRAE and Université Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne. A young, fast-growing structure, PSE works with many public and private partners in France, Europe and abroad. It develops and supports a number of innovative projects, including the World Inequality Lab (WIL).

The World Inequality Lab (WIL) is a research laboratory at the Paris School of Economics (PSE) focused on the study of global inequalities. For almost ten years, the WIL has worked to produce evidence-based research on the various dimensions of inequality, both within and between countries. The results are disseminated through research papers, reports, events and media interventions. The WIL also maintains the World Inequality Database (WID), the most extensive open-access public database on global inequality dynamics. The WIL team is made up of about twenty researchers and professionals based at PSE, and works closely with an international network of over 200 academics affiliated with the WID.

As part of a project on global gender inequality, the WIL aims to estimate the share of labour income received by women across the globe, compare patterns between different world regions and search for explanations of cross-regional differences by leveraging a newly assembled global dataset. To get an overview of the project, have a look at Chapter 5 of the World Inequality Report 2022. We are looking for a candidate with interest in assisting us in developing this project further, with experience in survey data analysis, an overview of the gender economics literature and who works with great independence and initiative.

You will assist the gender coordinator in analyzing survey data for many countries worldwide, searching for complementary data for further analyses, and contributing to the project’s methodological development.
