Administrative procedures

Once you have confirmed your place in one of our programs, we advise you to quickly inform yourself about the visa procedures for your stay in France. The rules vary depending on your country of origin and the length of your stay.

We do not have a special arrangement with the OFII (French Office of Immigration and Integration), so you will have to manage your visa application yourself. If you need help or documents from us, please contact us. Each year, OFII maintains a permanent office at the CIUP until November with English-speaking staff to answer your questions.

For Master students (long-term stays):

You will need a one-year VLS-TS visa (long-stay visa for residence permits). We can provide you with the necessary documents (registration certificate, transcript, etc.) for your first application or renewal (only in the context of re-enrollment in one of our programs).

For participants in short programs (short stays):

Participants in Summer school or Executive education in some countries are exempt from visa for a stay of less than 90 days in France. For other nationalities, a visa application before arrival is mandatory.

PSE does not offer student accommodation, but many organizations can help. If you are not French, contact your embassy or consulate and use social networks.

For Master students (long-term stays):

Looking for accommodation from abroad is difficult. You will not be able to visit the property on site and the owners may hesitate to rent to someone they have not met. Many foreign students choose temporary accommodation for their first weeks in France, then seek permanent accommodation on site.

PSE has a partnership with the Maison des Provinces de France at the Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris. Each year, 14 rooms are reserved for EPA and PPD students, with priority given to students from developing countries. Eligible students are notified by email before the summer.

For participants in short programs (short stays):

In summer and during holidays, rents rise, especially for short stays. Book a room or apartment as soon as you confirm your place in a short PSE program.

The law of 8 March 2018 on the orientation and success of students changes the rules of affiliation to the student social security. From the beginning of the 2018/2019 academic year, new students will be affiliated to the general social security scheme, permanently abolishing the student scheme in 2019.

First enrolment in higher education for French students:

You remain affiliated with your current social protection scheme for the reimbursement of your health expenses.

Foreign students from the European Union:

With a valid European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), you do not need to join the French health insurance. Your home country will cover your health costs.

Other international students:

If you register for the first time in higher education in France, you will have to join the French social security via the site: etudiant-etranger.ameli.fr.
