About PSE : History of PSE
PSE and its evolution over time are intrinsically linked to a process of grouping together Parisian economics research laboratories. The history of PSE is also the history of the teams that made it up, highlighting the commitment of higher education establishments and research organizations to the creation of a common pole of research and teaching in economics with an international scope.
Chronology
2006
At the initiative of Daniel Cohen and Thomas Piketty, the “École d’économie de Paris” was created by decree, in the legal form of a scientific cooperation foundation, based on the joint research units Paris Jourdan Sciences Économiques (PjSE) and the Sorbonne Economics Center. Roger Guesnerie became its president, and Thomas Piketty its director.

That same year, the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation and the General Commission for Investment recognized the “Paris Graduate School of Economics (PgSE)” project proposed by PSE among the winners of the new phase of the Future Investment Programs (known as PIA3) related to “Écoles universitaires de recherche” (EUR), awarding it a grant of 23 million euros over 10 years.

The history of PSE illustrates an exceptional journey, fostered by the collaboration and mix of six academic supervisory bodies. This long process of consolidation has enabled Parisian economists to gain international visibility, underlining that collective value exceeds the sum of individual contributions. As a result, PSE is now a major player in economic research and teaching worldwide.
